The Stop/Go buses are a unique feature of Amsterdam
One of the best options for travel for those staying, visiting, shopping, working or sightseeing in Amsterdam’s historic canal belt, is the Stop/Go bus (formerly known as Opstappers). Because this canal is very long, you’ll pass several important intersections along the way, like Utrechtsestraat (which is close to Rembrandtplein) and Leidsestraat (close to Leidseplein and the Bloemmarkt).
The Opstapper also drives past the Anne Frank House, the Jordaan neighborhood and the Stopera (a music theater near city hall). The Opstapper can also be used to get to certain bus- and tram lines you might want to take to get to other parts of Amsterdam.
The best thing about these buses is that they have no fixed stops on the route. You simply hold out your hand and the bus will stop for you. When alighting, just indicate to the driver where you want to get off.
These unique Stop/Go buses run from Monday to Sunday between 9.00am and 5.30pm. Buses depart every twelve minutes en run between the Waterlooplein (from outside the City Hall/Muziektheater complex) – Central Station (the stop in the direction Oosterdok is located at the busstand at the Prins Hendrikkade/cormer Damrak, opposite the Victoria Hotel, the stop in the direction Waterlooplein is near the taxistand) – and Oosterdok (on the Oosterdokskade, opposite the Public Library). Their scheduled route between these points is along Prinsengracht, but the buses may be diverted to avoid obstructions.
One-euro tickets are available from the driver. These tickets are valid for one hour, but only on the Stop/Go. Your regular bus and tram card (strip ticket, just 1 travelzone is two strips), season ticket (for zone 5700) or your GVB 24-, 48-, 72- or 96-hour ticket are also valid on the Stop/Go.
