Rijksmuseum Museum – The pride of Amsterdam

The Rijksmuseum National Museum, founded in 1800 and set in its historic building, is the largest museum in the Netherlands. Located on the Museumplein, the museum is the largest in the size of its paintings collections from the Dutch Golden Age, Asian art collection, its building, the budget and the number of staff employed. The paintings collection includes works by artists Jacob van Ruysdael, Frans Hals, Johannes Vermeer and Rembrandt and Rembrandt’s pupils.

The museum was founded in 1800 in The Hague to exhibit the collections of the Dutch stadtholders. Later in the year 1808, king Louis Bonaparte, brother of Napoleon Bonapartethe, ordered to move the museum to Amsterdam.

The museum employs around 400 people, including 45 curators who are specialized in all areas. The museum holds high quality exhibitions and publications and also offers scholarship and encourages new insights. Leading designers are regularly commissioned to work on Rijksmuseum projects. The museum is open daily from 10am to 5pm and the entrance is from Stadhouderskade 42.
