It was about 150 years old and a source of cheer, hope and inspiration for Anne Frank during her hiding period from the Nazis in the attic. It has been beautifully mentioned several times in the Anne’s diary “The two of us looked at the blue sky, the bare chestnut tree glistened with dew….we were so moved and entranced that we couldn’t speak. As long as this exist… I may live to see it. ”. The tree was set to be cut down in 2007 due to the fungal and moth infection. But owing to the protest of the supporters and the citizens it was decided by the officials that its life should be prolong by sheltering it with a steel frame. In 2008 this supportive construction was made. But the stormy weather bought the end of the monumental tree and it fall off with a loud noise. The spokesman for the incident says “It broke off completely about one metre off the ground “. To keep the tree live saplings have already been planted all over the world including Europe and USA and Amsterdam has planted 150 in a park.
