The museum has been closed on 29th September 2012 till April 2013 for renovation. It has been planned to complete the renovation by next year as the museum is going to celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2013.In this period of time full renovation has been expected. Besides this, during this period Hermitage museum will temporarily host the masterpieces by Van Gogh with approximately 75 paintings, some of the selected letters, work on paper, and objects along with the Vincent presentation. This is the last expected major renovation in the sequence of main museums in Amsterdam. As the Scheepvaartmuseum has already been re-opened in 2011, the Stedelijk Museum has been re-opened recently and the Rijksmuseum is going to be open soon.

The originality of the façade of the building has been maintained but the interior is totally new. It was closed in 2007 due to planning of major renovation. The new core of the cinema includes 7 halls with 117 seats. The magnetism of the theater will be a mix of art house, theater and mainstream movies. The opening of this theater is in addition to the major opening of last Sunday’s DeLaMar Theater. This cinema can be now seen in the list as Pathe City as it has become a part of Pathe cinema group.
