After the hard work of years, eventually the floating Dutchman, a new attraction in Amsterdam is ready to entertain the visitors. This Floating Dutchman is actually an amphibious bus that conducts a splendid ‘splashing tour’ through the water in the canals. The tour initiates from the Schiphol Airport to the highway into Amsterdam’s city centre, from here it turns to the Amstel river near the science Centre NEMO and continue through Nieuwe Herengracht, the skinny bridge – ‘Magere Brug’, the Royal Theatre Carre, the Blauwburg and the Amsterdam City hall via the Oude Schans, Oosterdok, returns to NEMO and after exiting the canal comes back to Amsterdam Airport. In reality after getting into the water an electric engine drives the bus. The complete tour consumes about 2 hours and 45 minutes so to enjoy this tour one needs to have minimum of 4 hours of transfer time. During the ride one can’t get off, neither there is any stoppage. It has been especially planned for transferring passengers on airport of Amsterdam. It is an exciting opportunity for the visitors who have long layover at Amsterdam Airport or with a tight schedule to visit the sightseeing in “splashbus”. Many Trips are conducted daily after a short time interval.

One of the oldest buildings of Amsterdam ‘The Waag’ on Amsterdam Nieuwmarkt square, which was built in the late middle age, is facing some problems in its foundation. The structure was erected in 15th century as the Eastern entry gateway to Amsterdam and now it houses a café. The east tower of the building is leaning towards the building as the main building is submerging but the east tower of the building is not going through the same course. This dilemma is causing cracks and other damages in the tower thus it was supported by a wooden structure last week. Although there is a need to replace the entire foundation yet for now the necessary measures to save the building has been taken up as the other option might consume many years.

At Christie’s auction, an Andy Warhol’s portrait ‘The portrait of Queen Beatrix of Netherlands’ from one of the series of ‘Ruling Queen’ sold for 530 thousand dollars (409,000 euros). Maarten van Dzhiyn, the agency representative of the auction house said that a Dutch company engaged in the organization of exhibition (from Triton foundation) has become the owner of the portrait now. He added that the pink portrait of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands will go on display at the State Museum (Rijksmuseum) in Amsterdam. The occasion of its display is still unknown. This portrait of Queen was written in 1985 by the renowned ‘masters of Pop Art’ – Andy Warhol. Other than Queen Beatrix images of Britain Queen Elizabeth II, the Danish Queen Margarethe and Swaziland Queen Ntombi laTfwala are also been included in this series. Queen Beatrix has been praised by Warhol as ’the best looking of the bunch.’

P align=”justify”>The number of cafes so called coffee shops in Amsterdam that sells cannabis is steadily dropping. The Groningen University have accomplished a survey and published that 16 coffeeshops were shut under new legislation in Rotterdam alone as they were found too close to the high schools. In 2007 there were about 702 coffeeshops but the number was dived down to about 666 in 2009. This year the counting is even bigger. These shops have been closed down on the charge of violating municipal requirements. Under Dutch drug law, the licensed coffeeshops are allowed to sell a small quantity of marijuana, say maximum of five grams per person over 18 years of age, provided they meet certain requirements. For this the customer also has to show their identification. Although it is also a fact that this culture of cannabis and coffee is being attracting a lot of tourist since last many years but now the strictness of government concerning health and social problem could even reduce them to a large level by the year 2010.
