After a month long delay at last the floating Dutchman has been started with its real trip from the Schiphol airport by welcoming aboard its first paying passenger. Now the long layover in between the flights in Amsterdam is not a dreary period rather an interesting and entertaining one if the period is of about five hours. The visitors can relish in this amphibious bus in which they can enjoy the road tour from Amsterdam Airport and then plunge into the water in the specially built ‘Splash-Zone’ in same bus and take the pleasure of the canals as boat tour. Then the bus returns to the airport through the highway. This arrangement has especially done for the passengers who have to spend a long time on airport. The bus has the capacity to carry about 48 persons. The passengers who enjoyed the trip were very excited and stunning after completion of the tour. In their words ‘it’s really one of the best ways to explore the city during the break’. The tour takes about 2 hour and 45 minutes and there is also a discount offered on online booking of the tickets.

After the hard work of years, eventually the floating Dutchman, a new attraction in Amsterdam is ready to entertain the visitors. This Floating Dutchman is actually an amphibious bus that conducts a splendid ‘splashing tour’ through the water in the canals. The tour initiates from the Schiphol Airport to the highway into Amsterdam’s city centre, from here it turns to the Amstel river near the science Centre NEMO and continue through Nieuwe Herengracht, the skinny bridge – ‘Magere Brug’, the Royal Theatre Carre, the Blauwburg and the Amsterdam City hall via the Oude Schans, Oosterdok, returns to NEMO and after exiting the canal comes back to Amsterdam Airport. In reality after getting into the water an electric engine drives the bus. The complete tour consumes about 2 hours and 45 minutes so to enjoy this tour one needs to have minimum of 4 hours of transfer time. During the ride one can’t get off, neither there is any stoppage. It has been especially planned for transferring passengers on airport of Amsterdam. It is an exciting opportunity for the visitors who have long layover at Amsterdam Airport or with a tight schedule to visit the sightseeing in “splashbus”. Many Trips are conducted daily after a short time interval.

January is probably the coldest and ideal month in Amsterdam when city delights with the magical covering of dust of snow. It is the low season and thus good time to visit the city’s most popular attractions as the queues everywhere are the shortest. At this time days are short and weather might be quite cold but the flights and rooms are at their cheapest rate. The weather in this month is unpredictable-fluctuating from mild to freezing temperature or rain to snow (only dusting). The temperature varies between 31°F- 40°F and the average precipitation is about 69 mm. It is better to include umbrella, waterproof or windproof coat, warm clothes, comfortable shoes and day bag along with the other items of packing. To make the season more exciting public ice rinks are set up in the city offering free skating opportunity provided one owns the skates. If not, skates can also be hired from the place. The most thrilling activity is shopping in this season. A number of shops are in the row offering January Sale and thus the expensive designer dresses can be bought at reasonable rates from the fashionable boutiques. Although there are less annual events in this month but Amsterdam invite the visitors to experience the winter fun by enjoying ice skating, seasonal cuisine while wandering along canals and bridges or hang out in a cafe or coffee shop. The cultural programs at Concertgebouw, Stopera and other places are at full swing to entertain the guests.

The official opening of this new theater was carried out by the Royal Majesty Queen Beatrix. About 5 years and 65 million Euros have been spent for the absolution of this new theater. This new and improved theater has been raised on the same location of the old ‘Nieuwe De La Mar Theater’. It encompasses two halls with about 1500 seats. Stage plays, comedy and musicals will be the main attraction of this theater. For most of the performances knowledge of Dutch will be required. Earlier to this, in 1887, renowned Oscar Carre had also given ‘the Carre Theater’ to Amsterdam along the river Amstel.

A huge crowd, more than 300,000 spectators, is expected to arrive here to witness this beautiful, festive and fun filled event. This is the most enjoyable event especially on kid’s calendar. A great entry of Saint Nicholas, along with about 640 of his crazy ‘Peters’ coming from Spain, is set to start on Sunday, 14 of November. It’s a fabulous event when there is jovial atmosphere in every corner of the city and a huge crowd including children, young as well as old, participates to welcome hundreds of boats arriving at the Amstel River. Here the Saint uses to sail down on his boat at Maritime Museum. After that one of the biggest parades is apprehended in which Saint rides his beautiful white horse and his helper throws cookies and candies to the children and the spectators while passing through the route. The parade is accompanied by bands and festive floats also. The team is expected to be welcomed in between the Parade by the mayor of Amsterdam, Mr. Eberhard van der Laan. After passing through the main spots as Damrak, Prins Hendrikkade, Munt tower, Rokin and other places the Parade will finally reach to Leidse Square where Saint Nicholas will address the children from the balcony of the City Theatre. The preparations to celebrate this great event have almost been completed and now waiting is on peak to enjoy and get the blessings from Saint.

ADE (Amsterdam Dance Event), the world’s biggest club festival for electronic music is going on in Amsterdam and will last till 24th of October. Since 1996 when the ADE came to light, it has progressed with a goal of ’sky is the limit’. In 1996 this leading electronic music conference was rather a small one having a few hundred music professionals and 30 DJs in 3 clubs performing a festival program. But now it holds about 700 artists from all around the world who offers their performance in about 44 clubs.
