The Amsterdam Dance Event which is organized by the Amsterdam Dance Event foundation, an initiative of Buma Cultuur, will take place in Amsterdam from 21st to 24th October. Every year, this electronic music event attracts an audience of 90.000 music lovers and 2.000 music professionals from around the globe. During the four days of the festival over 700 DJs and live acts will perform in 40 different venues. The Amsterdam Dance Event is now recognized as biggest international gathering of the electronic music scene with representatives from record labels, agencies, festivals, managers and artists providing an opportunity to these artists to stay in touch with the international scene and new developments.

The 14th edition of this event to be held in October will witness some of the hottest names in the world of dance music such as: Armin van Buuren (NL), Laurent Garnier (FR), Richie Hawtin (CA), Boys Noize (DE) and Freemasons (GB). Apart from these, other names which have been confirmed are Deadmau5 (CA), Derrick May (US), Fedde le Grand (NL), John Dahlback (SE ), Filastine (ES) and Franc,ois K. (US). New artists confirmed include;

Arjuna Schiks (NL), Ben Westbeech (GB), Brian Sanhaji (DE), Chuckie (NL), Bangkok Impact (FI), Blacksoul (HR), Danny Howels (GB), Deadmau5 (CA), Derrick May (US), and several others.

‘Amsterdam Dance Event is like a Tapas bar where you get a lot of small snacks at one place. Because all DJ’s at ADE play for just an hour or so, you get a preview of a lot of different kinds of electronic music at one event,” commented Armin van Buuren, NL.

“It’s very rare to mix up the words relaxed and business together, ADE does this easily, you always end up with results in a friendly atmosphere, it mirrors the spirit of Amsterdam, subsequently it is always a highlight in my diary,” said Dave Clarke, The Netherlands

It is always a heavenly experience to get a relaxing massage after a hectic day tour around the city. Though, Amsterdam is not particularly famous for its relaxing attractions, the city has several top-class massage centers and spas that offer a wide range of treatments. Some of the best massage centers in Amsterdam are:

Located near the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam Massage Center is although a small concern, but it has an extensive list of massages and treatments including Swedish, Ayurvedic, deep tissue, hot stone, cranio-sacral and Dorn Breuss massages. Shiatsu and chair massages and foot reflexology are also offered.

Address: Weteringschans 121.

Call: +31 (0)20 427 8176 for an appointment and exact opening times.

Koan Float is another option where you can get a good range of massages in modern, restful surroundings, including Swedish, Shiatsu, rebalancing, hot stone and Thai. Some lesser well-known massages available are Boja, which combines elements of classic Western massage with Eastern acupressure, and Esalen, a bodywork technique that uses long, tai’chi-like strokes to encourage deep relaxation. Koan Float also offers the unusual “floating” treatment in private tanks. The tanks are filled with highly salted water which buoys up the body, giving a feeling of weightlessness. The tank is warm and quiet and there are no external distractions thus relaxing your muscles and mind at the same time.

Address: Herengracht 321.

Open daily from 9.30 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Call: +31 (0)20 555 0333 to make an appointment.

Perhaps the most beautiful spa and treatment center in Amsterdam, Suana Deco is small and unprepossessing from the outside. However, in reality, it is a large building, originally designed as an office in 1890 by the Dutch architect Hendrik Petrus Berlage.

Almost all of the furnishings of the place were salvaged in the 1970s from the Parisian department store Au Bon Marche, after the board of directors decided that the store needed immediate modernization.

Sauna Deco offers a comparatively smaller number of massages which include Swedish, Shiatsu, hot stone and sports massages. Additional facilities include a Turkish steam bath, two saunas, splash pool, relaxation area, beauty salon, juice bar and terrace.

Netherlands has the most advanced marijuana growing technology in the world and though marijuana production is illegal here, ironically the sale of cannabis seeds in the Netherlands is completely legal.

Cannabis, both in marijuana and hash form, almost always has a colorful name attached to each individual strain as the choice of varieties for these seeds seems indefinite. Most of the shops selling Cannabis seeds are going in for an online business rather than physical shops.

Seeds are almost always sold in packs of 10, and a 10-pack of the most basic outdoor seeds will start at around €20. However, a 10-pack of the best ones like the Jack Herer indoor seeds will cost around €150. The best thing about the sale of these seeds is that the sellers give you a clear details of the best season, length to maturity, and typical yield of each seed, so you’ll know exactly what you are getting and how best to grow it.

Though a lot of seeds are brought by the visitors, it is illegal to bring them into the UK and Canada. The illegal transport of seeds is possible due to the fact that an airport official can remotely find your tiny bag of 10 seeds and also the drug sniffing dogs cannot catch them as the seeds don’t smell like anything while the weed itself can often be smelled by everyone in the terminal.

Though most of the seed selling shops have closed down in Amsterdam, one of the oldest and most famous banks in the city, Sensi Seed Bank of Amsterdam, is still running and going. You might as well give a visit here if you want to buy cannabis seeds in Amsterdam.

1. Go for a nice scrutiny about your dress and avoid looking scruffy. You need to match up your shoes, socks, shirt and trousers for a proper night out in Amsterdam.

2. Avoid talking loudly in English or looking drunk because the British here do not hold a very high reputation. So, play yourself down and learning a few handy Dutch phrases would be of a great help.

3. Though smoking is okay in most Dutch Clubs, just watch out as the rules vary from venue to venue. Though E is generally accepted in most clubs with some even offering testing facilities, other harder drugs are less tolerated. Take heed as the beer is strong here (5% min), and served in small glasses and also Dutch drugs, (cannabis, speed, X.T.C) are all top quality. Even the most regular ones can get drugged out easily if they don’t watch their quantity.

4. Tipping the doorman is the best way to ensure your return entry. Just slipping the bouncer 10 guldens accompanied by a polite ‘bedankt’ (Ber-dankt or Thank you) would secure you a trouble free evening and a shorter queue on your next visit.

5. DO NOT mess up with Dutch police as it could result in a severe beating followed by a night in the cells. Even Dutch tolerance has its limits.

Few months back, I got a life time opportunity of visiting one of the most beautiful cities on Earth- Amsterdam, the capital city of Netherlands. I stayed in a central location on a canal and could easily walk to museums, resteraunts and shopping. The beauty, the structure, the layout and the liveliness of the city mesmerized me and even as two months pass by, I am still lingering around with the beautiful memories of the place. There is something for everyone in Amsterdam and even as I stayed for as long as fifteen days, I could not get enough of the place. The Artis Zoo, the Royal Palace, the floating flower market, Madame Tassauds, Muiderslot castle, the temples, the museums, the gardens and parks, theatres and concert halls, the fun of biking- everything is just so perfect and just so appealing. I went on excursions around the city on foot, on bikes, on cycles- and yet I feel there was more. Though I am not much into shopping, I enjoyed my time browsing through multi-level department stores to one-of-a-kind boutiques, antiques to contemporary Dutch design- there was just everything in Amsterdam.

Such is the hangover of the city that I have decided to share everything about Amsterdam with all my readers in the days to come. Come and join me in the virtual tour to Amsterdam and I promise that you will feel the place even before you visit it.
