National Cycling Day-

Amsterdam is well known throughout the world as the cycle loving city of Europe. While traveling Amsterdam it is better to hire a bicycle to discover and enjoy the real Amsterdam. Bikes or cycles are one of the best and comfortable means of transport to travel the town therefore this mode of transportation is preferred in Amsterdam. Not only the residential but the visitor also seems to be very enthusiastic for this ride. This passion for two wheels is even celebrated in the whole of the Netherlands as National Cycling Day. In Amsterdam every Second Saturday in the month of May has been chosen to celebrate this festival.

Amsterdam is basically a walking city through which real charm and beauty could be observed nicely. Although heavy traffic could be observed in Amsterdam every day but second Saturday of May has something special in it. This is the day of celebration. It is an exciting effort done by the country to encourage this type of ride by devoting the second Saturday of May to celebrate it as a National Cycling Day. One can easily rent a bike to enjoy this fun activity. A huge crowd of Dutch on their bikes and pedals to participate in the activity on the decided routes can be seen. Some of the special cycling routes are also organized for this cycling trip. Center of the city becomes car free on this day. The cycling routes lead up to the mills giving the signal that they are open for the visitors to have a view.

National Windmill Day -

Even National windmill day is also celebrated in the country (probably falls on the same day). Netherlands is famed for the windmills (molen) as the windmills have helped the Dutch to fight water shortage. A large number of windmills are situated throughout Holland. Out of them in Amsterdam itself there are about eight windmills. The main foundation on which Dutch economy was built is Windmills. These windmills are the pride of the country and helpful to the Dutch in many ways.

These types of events are very unique, exciting and inviting. The doors to windmills of the country are opened for the visitors. Windmills are unfurled on this day to welcome the coming guest. Blue banner could be seen that indicates that windmills are open. The windmills are decorated with flowers and entry become free for the public. The windmills decorated with flowers, garlands and Dutch flags are unfurled on them looks very beautiful and attractive.

These windmills are not built in the urban areas as buildings might obstruct their working so the windmills in Amsterdam are generally outside the city walls. Therefore they provide a chance to travel outside the limit of Amsterdam also. These mills have been built in an art form so without visiting these windmills trip to Amsterdam is incomplete.

A large number of tourists try their best to reach the city to enjoy this event. The price for the staying at hotels begins to touch the peak by the beginning of May as most of the tourists prefer to travel Amsterdam in the period of April to October. In this period of time the weather is also suitable and many events are also celebrated in the town. Many of the hotels have been computerized for the reservation process. Therefore early booking can actually save a bit of money and time, if done.
